With an avalanche of LGBTQ+ material releasing on a monthly basis, the times of squinting for a peek of queer representation appear to be securely behind you. But quantity doesn’t constantly assure quality, especially when it comes to stories about marginalized identities. Whenever 20th 100 years Fox revealed “Love, Simon” in 2018, it was the very first facility movie to feature a gay teenage coming out story. Although it was actually cheesy as hell, the comedy heated the minds of queer people of every age group, a lot of who had never seen a reflection of the younger selves in a big-screen movie with A-list movie stars.
The movie did interestingly better at box-office, making $66 million globally becoming the 15th highest-grossing teenage romance since 1980. Demonstrably, LGBTQ+ audiences are hungry (or dehydrated, because circumstances may be). (more…)
